Sprinkler Park

Here is a video from last week when Corina and I took Matthew to the Canton Sprinkler park. Too bad I don't have the video where Corina turned on the sprinklers as I was in the middle of the fountain trying to get Matthew :-) I'm sure it was quite a funny sight to see as I ran out trying not to get soaking wet. Anyhow, our little water-boy is sure to love this summer, with his fascination with water!!

The Tissue Game

Here is Matthew playing with his favorite toy...next to the cell phone, of course!!

Tree Down

Last Sunday, as the severe storms came through Metro Detroit, we had a tree casualty. Greg and I were giving Matthew a bath when we heard a loud crash. We thought it was thunder, but came to find out that it was a huge limb of our Silver Maple tree in front of our home that came crashing to the ground. We said a prayer of thanksgiving that it was not the largest of the three branches that fell, which would have no other place to fall except right into the front of our house, where both of our bedrooms are! The city has plans to take the rest of the tree down in the beginning of July. Until then, we are praying for no more winds. Here are some of the aftermath photos we took that night.

Self Feeding is Messy!!

Memorial Day at Port Huron

We spent all day Monday (Memorial Day) in Port Huron at the White House cottage. It was a beautiful day, which was supposed to be rainy, but never did. It was so fun seeing Matthew's reaction to the sand and water, now that he is a little older. I think he is going to be a beach bum yet :-)

Sweet Symphony

Matthew says hello

Aunt Kim comes to town

We were blessed to have Aunt Kim stay with us for a week around Greg's birthday. They took Matthew on another zoo outing. We love you Aunt Kim!! Come back soon!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Greg celebrated his birthday May 17th at Mongolian BBQ with the family. Here we have Matthew's Grandpa clanging the gong, with Matthew's cute reaction right below. After dinner we went to their house for gifts. Happy birthday daddy!!

Our little couch potato

The photos say it all!!

Happy birthday CJ and Alex!!

We started May off outdoors at our friends CJ and Alex's birthday. I don't have a photo of the birthday boys, b/c they are living in Greg's computer, but we caught these cute pix of Matthew on the swing, and riding on the train with mom.

Detroit Zoo with Mom and Dad

Greg and I took Matthew to the zoo last week on Greg's day off. The weather was perfect, and Matthew loved seeing all the animals. He still refers to each of them as doggies, but it's the cutest thing ever. Here are some favorite shots of the day.

Happy Mother's Day

I just couldn't resist posting a photo of Matthew from this time last year. He is becoming more and more of a toddler each day! What a special day this mother's day is for me. Matthew is such a joy!
It is also becoming very clear to us that Matthew LOVES the water. I have never seen anyone squeal in delight the way he does when you let him play in the water fountain, shower stream or the garden hose. What a cutie!!

Hope you all enjoy your mother's day!

Love,
Michelle

Look who's walking now...

Well, I wish I could show you a video or a photo, but my computer has crashed (that makes 4 crashed computers now, which is why I am so stubborn about not getting forwarded emails :-()...

Anyhow...Matthew is now an avid walker!! He took 5 wobbly steps last night, and today is walking with confidence. He is down the hall and across the living room. He carries books and sippy cups with ease, and wears a huge smile all along the way! 14 months and 5 days old!! What fun!!

Our little driving ace.

The Jumpin' Monkey

We found a toddler's paradise on Monday! We were looking for something to do, and we ran across an ad in the phone book for the Jumpin' Monkey. When I looked on-line, I was so excited to take Matthew there, and I wish we had one of these in Michigan. They had 8 inflatable play domes, with slides and plenty of room to jump and roll around. In the center of the building was a giant play space, stocked with every toddler toy imaginable. All along the sides there were dress-up rooms, filled with costumes and props for the older kids. They even had a coffee snack bar! This was a perfect day. I know Matthew was really needing some time to just be a kid for a few hours. It was great having all these new toys to play with!!

After we left the Jumpin' Monkey, we headed off to the beach to watch the waves one last time. He loved watching all the kids playing in the sand, and was captivated by the waves and all the seagulls (which he called doggies).

Today we are heading home. We will miss Nana and Papa, but are also very excited to see daddy and Sierra again! Bon Voyage Virginia Beach!! We'll see you next year!

Show a little love to someone you know...

Matthew is such a sweet boy!! He is very cuddly this week especially. I think he is really missing his daddy and Sierra. He has been giving me so many hugs each day, and is so snugly with Nana and Papa.

He is already very particular about his love of turtles. It seems that every time he sees one, it brings a smile to his face. I couldn't believe he did this, and I was fortunate enough to catch it on video.

Another day at the park

With another day of 80 degree weather, my mom and I took Matthew back to the park on Saturday. It was a bit windy, but warmer than Michigan, so no complaints here. Notice how the azalea's are all in full bloom and look so beautiful! It's nice to be someplace that is in full springtime bloom!! We hope the weather cooperates, so that we can visit the azalea gardens tomorrow (Monday). My dad took vacation days on Monday and Tuesday, so it will be nice to spend some time with both Nana and Papa together. Our vacation is going by so quickly! We sure do miss daddy and Sierra though. Only 3 more days and we will be back home. Hope it stops snowing by then :-) Here are some photos from yesterday's outing. When we got home, Matthew entertained himself with the Huggies box for at least 20 minutes. He would pull a diaper from the box, stuff it back in, pull it out again. The fun was endless for him!! We brought all these toys, and yet he still prefers my cell phone, a remote control, the camera case and a box of diapers to the real things!!

A Very Busy Day

Yesterday Nana, Matthew and I took a trip to the Norfolk zoo. Finally we had our beautiful sunny Virginia Beach weather. We were happy to see that my Detroit Zoo pass got us into the zoo for free here too!! It was a beautiful zoo, with palm trees and bamboo everywhere. The animals were all in a natural habitat, which made them hard to see sometimes, but I was happy to see that they were not all in cages.
After the zoo, we took a ride over to Croatan beach (the beach that only the "locals" know about! )We saw a few surfers out in the water (though the waves are only 3' waves!) Matthew was not a big fan of the off shore breeze or the bright sun! He was absolutely terrified of the sand!! I tried to sit him down on the sand and he just looked at me and cried to be picked up. I think he was afraid he would sink into it!~ We ended up laying down a blanket from Nana's car on a sand dune next to the walkway, so that we were out of the wind, away from the water, and off the sand :-) Oh well!! Mommy got a little sun, and Matthew played on the blanket. Not a bad way to spend an hour! We headed back to the house around 3pm, since Matthew was feeling pretty crummy today, and not eating much at all. We were hoping the outdoors would help him feel better.
As you can see in the photo, he was not his happy self at the end of the afternoon. He came back to the house and took a long nap! Today (Saturday) he is finally back to his normal happy self, with a new molar tooth in his mouth! No wonder he was not eating yesterday.
